Canada eTA

Electronic Travel Authorization Application Agency

Menu

Your eTA is valid for 5 years or until your passport expires – whichever comes first. This means that if your passport expires or changes within the five-year period, a new travel authorization must be acquired with your renewed passport information.

You can come to Canada as many times as you wish as long as your eTA remains valid. Visits to Canada are usually approved for up to 6 months although the final allowed visit time is determined by a Canadian immigration officer at the point of entry. Keep in mind that leaving Canada and then re-entering does not reset the six-month visit period.

Caroline

Maurizia

Maurizia spent her own honeymoon in Canada 4 years ago. She and her husband visited Quebec. In a month they will return to Canada, this time visiting Toronto. While preparing the travel documents, Maurizia found that her passport will expire soon. Although in possession of a valid eTA document, Maurizia opted for the renewal of the passport. She will then apply for a new eTA authorization that will contain the data of the new passport.
