What Are the Best Things to Do in Canada?
If you are planning on visiting Canada, you’re probably looking for something that will make the holiday special. In fact, you may even choose the part of Canada where you visit based on the available options. Since you are dealing with a very large country (one of the largest in the world) it is important to consider a wide variety of options. The following are some of the best things that you could possibly do in Canada and regardless of whether you are visiting on holiday or if you live in one of those areas, there are options for you to consider.
Niagara Falls – You don’t need to go into the country of Canada very far in order to enjoy one of the top attractions found in it. This particular attraction is not just a single waterfall, as many people imagine, but it is actually three waterfalls that are found on the border between the United States and Canada. Those three falls include Bridal Veil Falls, The American Falls and Horseshoe Falls.
Although you can visit Niagara Falls on either the American or the Canadian side, most people would readily agree that the Canadian side is the best option. This is a great way to start a holiday in Canada, especially if you’re driving from the United States into the country. Even if you aren’t driving, it is still an attraction that is well worth seeing. While you are there, be sure to take a ride on the Maid of the Mist.
Enjoy the Floor of the Ocean
The tidal forces are important for keeping the earth healthy and they can also provide a very amazing and unique opportunity for those on a Canadian holiday. The Bay of Fundy is home to an area where the tides are higher than in any other part of the world. Some areas of the Bay of Fundy can see tides that are up to 54 feet! It is a great way to see the ocean and all of its beauty.
The real key is to come when the tide is low and the seawater has receded. It will give you the opportunity to take a walk on the floor of the ocean and to explore rock formations that have been carved over eons of time from the seawater. You will be able to find fossils and regardless of the direction where you look, you will see something amazing. The best time to go is between the months of May and October because it can be quite cold at other times of the year. Just make sure that you start heading in when the water comes back.
L’anse aux Meadows
If you are looking for some history that is quite amazing, you can follow the path of Lief, the son of Eric the red. This little village is found on Newfoundland’s northern tip and it is not only a great place to take in some Viking history, it is a beautiful place to see. This history goes back almost 3000 years and you can even stop in for one of the shows to learn a little more. Don’t forget to grab some dinner, the food in L’anse aux Meadows is fantastic.
Dinosaur Valley
The area of Drumheller is certainly well worth a visit and it is a unique part of the world, because you will find a large dinosaur standing in the middle of it. When dinosaurs first began to be discovered in the 1800s, they were found in this area. Ever since that time, they have been finding them in Drumheller and all over the world. You can enter into the dinosaur provincial Park and speak to a paleontologist who may still be digging and looking for additional dinosaurs. It is best to visit this area in the summer, although you can go at any time of the year.
Banff National Park
Found in the area of Alberta, this Park was established in 1883. It is listed as a world heritage site and when you see the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains unfolding in front of you, you will understand why. If nature is your goal when you are on holiday in Canada, this is one option that you will not want to overlook. You can enjoy some of the beautiful lakes, thermal hot springs and more than 1000 miles of hiking trails. Visit in the summer if you want to get out in the wilderness for the winter if you like to ski.
Wolf Lake
Found in the Yukon, this area is also one that is well worth a visit. The pristine wilderness found in the area of Wolf Lake is perhaps one of the best kept secrets in all of Canada. It is home to the Arctic Grayling, so you may just want to try your hand at fishing while you are in the area.
Old Québec
For those who would like to visit Europe but are unable to do so, the area of Old Québec is like stepping into another country. What might come as a surprise to you is that this is the only walled city in North America and you would have to travel to Mexico before you found one to the south. If you visit during the colder months, you can enjoy the winter carnival.
Prince Edward Island
If you are a lover of Anne of Green Gables, this is an area that is not to be missed. It has a rich history but it is also so full of beauty that it is difficult to miss when you’re on a Canadian holiday. There are guided tours available of the home and you can enjoy some live music at local theaters as well.
When it comes to finding things to do in Canada, this is really just scratching the surface. There are so many things to see and do throughout the country that it is important to dig even deeper and perhaps visit it more than once.
